OUR MISSION

The Supporting Characters
are a lower Westchester-based
professional theatre company
which is dedicated to the development of new theatrical works from initial collaborative lab sessions through public performance. Working with a core group of actors, directors, and writers, we provide a fertile artistic ground with freedom to fail, freedom to experiment, and freedom to bring bold original work to life in a process which recognizes that a play is not complete until it is seen by an audience.

After the play: It's your turn! The audience will have the opportunity to give feedback to the playwright, director and actors and ask questions. Playwrights use this process to revise their play and complete a script so that it is ready for production.

The comic action of At Death's Door centers around Othel Ray's elderly mother, who has decided this is the day on which she will die. The family has mixed reactions to this pronouncement, followed by chaos when she disappears entirely.

About the playwright: Actor-writer Ric Siler's plays have been presented widely in the NYC area and beyond; most recently, Where the Rain Never Falls was presented as a staged reading at the Abingdon Theatre in New York. He has also been represented twice in the TRU VoicesReading Series, with Damage Control(2002) and Where the Rain Never Falls (2005). Three of Ric's plays were read at the late, lamented Herbert Mark Newman Theatre in Pleasantville (Dead Authors, Hitting the Wood, and Words of Fire). As an actor Ric has worked with Ellen Burstyn(The Trip to Bountiful),Edward Albee(Counting the Ways) and John Sayles (Matewan). Along with playing Jerry in The Zoo Story, Ric has appeared in plays by Clifford Odets and Robert Anderson among many others.

Cast features Francis Callahan, Bette Carlson, David Fletcher, Suzanne Mignanelli, and Laurette Siler
